Melanie Poag

As a Curriculum Specialist at READ USA, Melanie Poag brings over three decades of experience in elementary education and a deep passion for literacy. She plays a key role in developing lesson plans for leveled books used in tutoring, contributes book reviews for our newsletter, and creates engaging parent activities to extend learning beyond the classroom.
A graduate of the University of North Florida with a degree in Elementary Education, Melanie served in Duval County Public Schools for 31 years. Her career included teaching kindergarten through third grade at Justina Road, Pickett, and San Mateo Elementary Schools, as well as 12 years as a school-based reading coach. She holds both Reading and ESOL endorsements and was honored as Teacher of the Year twice, most recently in 2021.
Now, retired from the classroom, Melanie finds joy in continuing her life's work through READ USA. “I love everything about reading,” she shares. “It’s great to be able to work doing what you love.”
Outside of her work, Melanie enjoys reading, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her family and their dogs. Both of her children are proud graduates of DCPS magnet programs.
